Migration of Glycoprotein from Golgi Apparatus to Cell Coat in the Columnar Cells of the Duodenal Epithelium

چکیده
A layer of carbohydrate material appears at the surface of a variety of mammalian cells (1) and is particularly abundant at free surfaces such as the striated border of the columnar cells of the intestine (2). In electron micrographs of intestinal cells, this material appears as a discrete coating covering the tips and sides of the microvilli (3). From the various histochemical tests applied (3-I0), it has been concluded that this "cell coat" consists of glycoprotein rich in acidic residues (I, 9). After incubation of cat intestine with a labeled precursor of complex carbohydrates (glucose-SH) followed by EM radioautography, Ito (l l) observed radioautographic reaction first over the cytoplasm of columnar cells and, after 1 hr, over the cell coat of the free surfaces. In this laboratory, by means of light microscopic radioautography, after injection of galactose-3H into young rats, label was localized, at early time intervals, to the Golgi region of duodenal columnar cells, and later traced

Passage of Fucose-3h Label from the Golgi Apparatus into Dense and Multivesicular Bodies in the Duodenal Columnar Cells and Hepatocytes of the Rat
Fucose 3H is a stable sugar selectively taken up into glycoproteins (1, 2) . Since fucose residues are located at the end of carbohydrate side chains (3), the uptake of fucose indicates completion of the synthesis of these side chains and presumably of the glycoprotein molecules themselves . When duodenal columnar cells were examined after fucose1H injection into rats, the label was observed on...
متن کاملMigration of Glycoprotein from the Golgi Apparatus to the Surface of Various Cell Types as Shown by Radioautography after Labeled Fucose Injection into Rats
A single intravenous injection of L-[(3)H]fucose, a specific glycoprotein precursor, was given to young 35-45 g rats which were sacrificed at times varying between 2 min and 30 h later. Radioautography of over 50 cell types, including renewing and nonrenewing cells, was carried out for light and electron microscope study. At early time intervals (2-10 min after injection), light microscope radi...

This study was carried out to investigate the histological and anatomical description of the male genital tract in Iranian Native White Roosters (IWR). The seminiferous tubules had a dense and compact organization. An average of 12 layers of cells was seen in the seminiferous tubules epithelium. The spermatogonal cell layer showed some variation between different birds in 1-3 layers; however, t...
متن کاملI-18: Avian Chimeras and Germ Cell Migration
Background: In avian species, the germ line stem cell population arises outside of the embryonic gonad and proceeds on a circuitous migration to the germinal epithelium. Specifically, in the avian embryo, the process of germ line stem cell migration proceeds through a series of active and passive migratory phases. The germline stem cells or primordial germ cells (PGCs) located in the epiblast o...
متن کاملImmunoelectron microscopic localisation of transforming growth factor alpha in rat colon.
Transforming growth factor alpha (TGF alpha) is a polypeptide, which binds to the epidermal growth factor receptor to carry out its function related to cell proliferation and differentiation. The ultrastructural localisation of TGF alpha was studied in both the proximal and the distal colon. The columnar cells, lining the surface epithelium of the proximal colon, showed a strong immunoreactivit...
